An-Nasr, "The Divine Support" (or "The Help"), is the 110th surah — three verses, and one of the last passages of the Quran to be revealed, in Medina near the end of the Prophet's life.1
What it is about
The surah looks to the moment "when the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes." Its response to that success is not celebration of power but worship: "then exalt [Him] with praise of your Lord and ask forgiveness of Him. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance." Triumph is turned back toward God.
Why it matters
The elder companions saw more in it than a victory announcement. Ibn Abbas explained to Umar that the surah signalled the Prophet's approaching death — that once the mission was complete, his time was near — and Umar agreed.2 To read An-Nasr in Arabic with translations and recitation, open it on Quran.com.
